The setting is a small town outside of London and Wren is a reporter, who is dating Alex, a trainer and a health nut and a control freak. Nick is a handyman, who is divorced and has a six-year-old daughter and lives with his half-brother. While working ay Libby’s bookstore, he drops a pane of glass that also hits Wren. Then a series of bad luck hits both of them, some caused by the other, without the other knowing. When Wren breaks up with Alex, she takes her father on the trip to Italy they had planned. When Nick finds a letter from the father he never knew, he heads to Italy as well. They finally meet, have a near-death experience, they develop a close relationship, not knowing they have more in common than they know. When tragedy strikes, the two reconnect and have to figure out where they go from here. This is a well-written character-driven novel that hits all the right notes. The almost tragedies and the supporting characters make this a great Memorial Day/beach read.
