The year is 1987 and Cora gives birth to a baby boy. Her abusive husband, Gordon, tells her to name the baby Gordon, the name runs in the family for male heirs and to go and register it. She wants to name the baby, Julian, and her daughter wants to name the baby, Bear. What comes next is three different stories, with what happens to the family, based on the name, over 35 years. Some find love, some lose family members, some have kids and some make stupid mistakes. It’s a well-written novel, with three completely different stories, that rope you in. This is one of those books you do not want to put down. A great debut novel from author Knapp.
