One thousand people are invited to a secret competition that will award the winner one billion dollars, and will make them the one, the person who will save mankind. It’s hosted by a mysterious person, the Host, and the people are reduced to one hundred, and the competition begins, with a surprise contestant, MrBeast (the famous YouTuber), Jimmy Donaldson. We get to know the people in the event and pick our favorites. The games are set in dangerous locations, a snake/spider island, glaciers, sharks, a war zone, and not everyone survives. Some die, some drop out, and Jimmy drops out, not liking how the game is going, and is determined to find out who is running the game and what their real motives are. We get to the end, learn who the one is, and get a surprise when the One is revealed. This is an intense, well-written, character-driven novel that starts off strong and never lets up. The packaging of the novel is awesome, set in a green tint, and the back adds a nice touch with drawings in various chapters. A fun end-of-summer thriller.
