In the final book in the series (please write more), the year is 1941 and WWII is in full swing. London is being bombed, and Louisa Sullivan worries about her husband Guy, and their five-year-old daughter Maisie, and is invited to reunite with the Mitford’s, in Chatsworth, which is so far safe from the bombings. She will go for a few weeks, for Christmas, and New Years. She must leave Guy in London, who has to work. An old woman arrives one night and says she has a message for Deborah Mitford. It’s cryptic, and tells her to search the vestibule, and they do, where Louise finds a bloody cap hidden away. This opens up all sorts of secrets, and Louisa puts on her investigators cap, and starts investigating. Then the woman is murder, another attempted murder takes place, and it leads back to something that happened 25 years ago, and someone wants it kept a secret. We learn what state the Mitford family is in now, how Guy and Louisa are doing, and it’s another fun, well-written novel. I am sad it’s the final novel in the series. I have enjoyed this whole series, and can once again hope that Jessica will write more.
You can pick up The Mitford Secret in stores on Tuesday, January 17th from Minotaur Books.
