Jason and Nicole have been married for 23 years, have two kids who are out of the house, and he’s taking a year’s sabbatical from work, and they have plans to go to South America for nine months, and then to meet up with the kids in Asia and Hawaii. She doesn’t want to go, preferring to go to Santa Fe and take courses in silversmithing. At the dinner party with their neighbors, they learn about the 500-mile rule and decide to put it into effect over this year, either of them can sleep with other people, with rules, and not feel guilty about it. We follow each of them on their year-long outing, see how they grow, if they take advantage of the distance, and figure out if this is a good thing for their marriage. This is a sharply written book, that looks at things from both sides, has some fun supporting characters, and a story you want to follow along with.
