Nicole and Tom have known each other since they were kids, and now a married couple, living in an English suburb. They won the lottery months ago, and had a beautiful house built, and lost most of their friends, who think they have changed, and that includes Patrick, Tom’s best friend, who keeps hitting him up for money. On this day, when Nicole gets home, she finds Tom dead in the pool, and runs to her neighbors, Olly and Sasha, who look after her, as does their housekeeper Kitty. As the police investigate, things do not add up. Each chapter is told from the point of view of one of the characters, and there’s so many twists and turns, you need a scorecard to keep track. The story moves along at a quick pace, there are many shocking secrets, and it all gets tied up by the time this engaging novel ends. Fans of psychological thrillers will love this one. One of the best of the years.
