One of my favorites books last year was the debut novel The Thursday Murder Club from author Richard Osman. Now he’s back with the follow-up novel The Man Who Died Twice and it is as good or maybe better than the first novel, which isn’t usually the case. These books are really well-written, with some of the best characters in any book all year. There smart and a these first two books are a lot of fun to read. The four members of the club, Joyce, Elizabeth, Ron and Ibrahim, live in a retirement home in Kent and like nothing better than to look at old mysteries and try to solve them. This one involves Elizabeth, who gets a message from a dead man, to come and meet him. She’s shocked but not shocked to see him (they have a past together) and learns he’s in some serious trouble for stealing 20 million dollars worth of diamonds (which he has denied to everyone by Elizabeth). Then things get really complicated when people die and the group of four get to work to find the diamonds and solve the case. They come up with a great plan that could answer everything in an instance. You don’t want to mess with the Thursday Murder Club.
You can pick it up in stores on Tuesday, September 28th from Pamela Dorman Books/Viking.
