Lucy Carter Maxwell is divorced and shares custody of her three kids with her ex. The tenth anniversary of the death of Gabriel, a man she loved and the father of her youngest is coming up. He worked as a photographer for AP and had a book out before he died. Now they want to do a 10th-anniversary update of his book. When Lucy is going through his stuff, she finds an address for someone in Rome. She heads there to hopefully find out who lives there. While in Italy she meets the handsome Dr. Dax Armstrong and begins dating him. She also wants to tell her son Samuel about his bio dad and her ex does not want to do that. Lucy is finally ready to move on after all these years and hopes the truth and opening her heart up can be done without any damage. This is the follow-up to The Light We Lost, which came out almost 10 years ago. I didn’t read that one and this reads as a stand-alone. This one is a heartwarming, well-written look at putting grief and pain behind you and moving on. Have some tissues handy.
