The year is 1747 and Bess Bright has just given birth to a baby girl Clara. And now she is at a foundling home just hours later with her father Abe handing the baby over to the hospital. She doesn’t want to but has no choice. She leaves a necklace as a keep sake. She is determined to come back and get her one day.
Now six years later she has saved up money and wants her daughter back. She goes to the foundling hospital and asks for her daughter. She’s told the child is gone. That Bess Bright took her six years ago the day after she was dropped off. She doesn’t understand who would have taken her and used her name.
Then she sees a woman with a child that looks just like Clara. She follows them and sees where she lives. The woman is a rich widow that never leaves the house and has a six year daughter named Charlotte. Bess comes up with a plan to get to Charlotte and hopefully take her away. Will her plan work or will she be caught and sent to prison?
A beautiful story of a woman who will go to any means necessary to get her child. Well-written from the points of view of both women has you rooting for Bess to get back her child.
