The year was 1666 in London and a great fire was destroying parts of the city. For one young girl it meant going back to her house during the fire to find a bag of diamonds that were buried in the basement. She never made it out alive.
Years later in the summer of 1912 they were found in London during an excavation and they will forever change the lives of Kate Kirby in present day. They are a link to her past with her Great Grandmother Essie and her Grandmother who died a few years ago without telling her story.
Kate has received a call to do a story on the Cheapeside Diamonds in London. She has found sketches that may have something to do with the diamonds. She also gets information from her cousin, a relative of Essie’s sister. Kate starts digging and soon finds shocking information that tells her about her Essie’s past and how she came to be in America.
The story goes back and forth in time and we learn everything as it happens. This duel timeline works great here and the story is heart-warming (beware you may need some kleenex by the time you finish). The story is based on the real life find of the diamonds in 1912. If you’re a fan of historical fiction like I am, you will love this book.
