PI Clay Edison is hired by Chris Villareal to look into almost $50,000 worth of payments his late grandmother made over her lifetime. Clay’s research leads him to the small town of Swann’s Flat, in Northern California, with a population of 13 people, and the money she paid out points to land she owns. This small town is controlled by one person, and they don’t like outsiders. Not being able to figure out much, he heads home, and while getting gas, he finds a flyer for a missing man, wearing a necklace, one he saw while in Swann’s Flat. He decides to investigate on his own, and it brings him back to where he just left, and he soon finds out things are not what they seem in this small town, and he may not survive to find the answers he needs. This is the fifth book in the father/son series, and just as good as the first one. The character of Clay Edison is well-written and fun to follow along with. Fans of this series and new ones will enjoy this one.
