The year is 1962, tensions are mounting between the United States and Soviet Union over nukes near Cuba. For 19-year-old Celia Duchesne, it’s another day at work, at the bookshop she works at, with a new owner. She enjoys the job, but wants a career in something else, much to the chagrin of her parents. An American man named Septimus, who knows the new owner, take a shine to her, she begins a bit smitten herself. She also finds out that she may have a secret sister, who died during WWII, and is on a hunt to find out who she was. She confronts her mother, and tracks down a lady who knows what happened to her, and who she really was, and how a friend of the new owner had something to with her death. Celia’s digging puts her life in jeopardy, and shocking secrets are soon revealed, This is a really good historical fiction novel, with a great lead character in Celia, and lots of twists and turns. Each chapter is told by one of the main characters, and it’s ususes the then and now, which enhances the story. Fans of these types of books will enjoy this one.
