Jane Pyre and Elijah Hart started talking music over the internet, mailed letters to each other in the early 90’s. She then left her mother and her house in Ontario, Canada, and made her way to Seattle and Elijah. They become a hit band, called the Lightning Bottles, tour the world, sell millions of albums, and win Grammy awards, but things go downhill when Elijah can’t handle the fame, and turns to drugs, and the relationship starts to implode and then he dies in a boating accident, even though a body was never found. Now five years later Hen, who lives in Germany, and is a fan of the band, finds a cryptic message on a painting on a wall and thinks he may still be alive. Then Jane ends up buying the house next to hers, and together they go on a road trip, find more clues, and Jane begins to wonder if he’s still alive as well. Told in before and five years later, before when they met, became famous and everything that happened, leading to his dying, and Jane’s life leading up to meeting Hen. An intense character-driven novel, looking at a love story, the life of beginning famous in a world of sex, drugs, and rock and roll and the mystery if Elijah is still alive. This one’s a winner.
