The year is 1943 and Kate Campbell is a nurse in the Pacific, flying back and forth to pick up injured soldiers, and help return them to base, until she gets a leg injury and is sent home to recover. Once she’s better, she’s sent to England to do the same thing, fly to France to help pick up injured soldiers, and return them to England. On one flight she meets William, who was shot three times, and they soon become an item, get engaged and then he has to return to France to battle the Germans. Kate gets a letter from her Aunt at home and gets the shock of her life, her sister is still alive, living in Germany, where Kate is from, in a whole other life, she hasn’t told William about any of it. She decides she has to go find her sister, it’s a dangerous and perhaps deadly trip, she soon finds out she is with child, and she may never see William again if this mission fails. In 2003, William has lost his wife to cancer a year ago, and receives a shocking visit, one that sheds light on Kate and who she really was. This is an intense, emotional novel about one woman’s quest to try and right the wrong that happened years ago, and her love for the man she never thought she would find. This is the fourth novel I have read from author Noelle Salazar and it’s another winner, like the first three.
