Tildy Barrows is the head curator at the Bel, an archival library in San Francisco. She loves her job but is worried because money is tight with the library. On this day she discovers a secret room in the apartment on top of the library, with two dollhouses. As she exams them, she finds hidden clues and is determined to find out what they mean, how the dollhouses got there and the secrets of them, and how they relate to her family, as she finds something that belonged to her late mother. As she investigates it leads her to the grandson of the woman who built the dollhouses and her journals, and learns shocking secrets going back to World War I and a secret so big it could bring down the library. Now she has to figure out how to proceed with everything she learns. A great historical fiction novel based on some life people that keeps you glued to the novel and these characters. Author Hooper has written another winner.
