Book Review: ‘The Lemon Sisters’ Looks At Four People Trying To Deal With Past And The Present

Mindy and Linc are married with three kids. There marriage has been strained lately as he is a Doctor and works a lot of hours. Mindy takes care of the kids and runs a yogurt shop as well. It has become very overwhelming for her lately. She shows up at her sister Brooke’s apartment and asks her to take care of the kids for a few days and give her a break. It shocks Brooke as they haven’t been close in a long time. But being a good sister she switches with Mindy. She takes the kids back to their house and Mindy stays at her apartment.

Brooke is afraid to face demons back at the family home but decides after seven years it is time. She knows at some point she will see Garrett, the former love of her life and father of her child (who she lost in a helicopter crash while she was on assignment for her job seven years ago). She bolted back then and didn’t look back. She broke his heart and her own as well.

Brooke is understanding now why Mindy felt overwhelmed with the kids and when Linc returns home she lets him have it about his marriage. He never thought it was so rough on her. He vows to change. When Mindy comes home he tries and works on his marriage with Minday.

Brooke and Garrett (who lives next door to Mindy and Linc) have an uneasy thing going on between them. When Brooke finally apologizes and they talk things get better but not great. The relationships between Brooke and Garrett and Mindy and Linc and each other are very dysfunctional.

So the question is can they all work out their issues and the past behind them and move on with their lives today or will things remain status quo?

This is a great story of family, hurt and how not communicating with those closest to you can make you withdraw and doubt yourself. The characters and story are compelling and you find yourself rooting for these characters to work out all their issues.
