The year is 2022 and England is slowly getting back to normal, Covid restrictions have been lifted, and 3 friends can resume life. Edwin, who’s 85, Natalka, in 50 years younger than him, as is her boyfriend Benedict. They have a private detective agency, that mostly Edwin and Natalka run, and have been hired to look into a death, that could be a murder. A romance novelist has died, and her two daughters suspect her second husband of killing her, even though there was no evidence of murder. As they start investigating, they find out more authors have been killed, and one thing they have in common is Battle House, a retreat for writers. Edwin and Benedict go there for a weekend, and there’s a murder, and then days later another person from the house is murdered. They ask DI Harbinder Kaur to help out, and Edwin soon figures out things, but someone wants them dead, and he may not have the chance to tell the police who the killer is. This is an average murder mystery, with interesting characters, but the story didn’t do much for me, I am not sure why. Fans of her Ruth Galloway series should like this, I would rather have had another Ruth story, I like that series.
