Book Review: ‘The Last Chance Library’ Is A Feel Good Novel To End The Summer With By Freya Sampson

June Jones is a library assistant at the library in the small English town she lives in and a bit of a shut-in, espically since her mother died. They have a regular crew of people that come in almost daily and June knows them all. She loves to discuss books and recomment them. Then word comes that the committee that runs the the area is looking at shutting down six libraries do to budget cuts. This outrages the group of people that come into the library and the locals and they decide to take a stand. Nothing like old fashion sit-ins, protests, marches and petitions. June is all for it but is not allowed because she works for the library. She secretly does her part and soon things get really heated and the town will do what it can to save the library. Along the way June meets up with an old school friend Andy, who may end up becoming something more. And as the decisions as what to do with the library come down, shocking details come out and a tragic death turns out to be a blessing from beyond the grave.

This is a fun novel to end the summer with great, quirky characters in the towns people, along with June who you root for along the way. The novel also shows the power of the people in fighting for what they want and doing it in a peaceful way. Just a delight to read.
