The year is 1956, and the setting is Balboa Island, off the coast of California. For three women, their lives are about to change. Milly has moved here with her two kids and her Hollywood TV producer, Lloyd, who is never home. It was her idea to move here to get away from Los Angeles. Lloyd spends all his time in Hollywood, and announces he is getting an apartment and will spend time with the kids on the weekends. Sylvia and her husband, Walter, have lived on the island for a long time, and are pillars of the small community. Walter has opened a club for tennis and swimming, and soon finds himself overextended, and loses a lot of money gambling. Adele is a loner she has a secret from many years ago and barely talks with anyone. The three of them become friends and are there for each other when needed, and are determined not to lose everything they have. A heartwarming story of friendship, family, and love. A perfect beach novel to read.
