A heartwarming dual-storyline novel that follows the lives of two different women living in the same house. In the present day, Skye has won a house on a small island in Greece for one euro. It’s her escape from her abusive husband and overbearing mother. She has gone off the grid to live in the house, which she must fix up. She meets new people and makes new friends, always keeping the secret of her life from these new people. In 1941, the lives of the people living here are uprooted when WWII takes over, and the island is seized. A young woman, newly married and pregnant, fights to survive, hoping that her new husband will return. When Skye and Andreas, the local carpenter, helping her fix up her house find a stack of hidden letters, which opens the door to the past and captures the hearts of those in the present. Along the way, Skye’s life changes in many ways, as her husband finds her, and she may just find love again. This is an excellent character-driven novel that shows how a new start is possible for anyone. Following along with these lead characters, and supporting ones, as thy become a family, will put a smile on your face.
