A new President has been elected and she will be sworn in a few months. Everything is being set in motion for that day, including staff vetting potential cabin picks, ambassadors, attorney general and even Supreme Court Justices, should any openings take place. When a judge is murdered, Alex Cross and Mahoney are on the case, then another one is killed and it turns out they’re on a list for the new president. In the mountains of mountains of Nevada, a handicapped man is on the run in his vehicle, and crashes and dies. It’s believed he is the mysterious billionaire M, the person who has made life miserable for Cross and Sampson for years. Bree doesn’t believe it was him, and she and John investigate, go to the scene of the death and find shocking information, are kidnapped and Cross goes looking for them. What they all find is shocking, a vast conspiracy to clean up the government is secretly being done and it leads to a climatic scene in the mountains of Canada. Someone is shot, others die and Cross, John and Bree are in for the fight of their lives. The novel does end on a happy note though. This is another great novel in the series. The action scenes, especially at the end are awesome and this book keeps you on the edge of your seat. This series along with Michael Bennett are my two favorite Patterson series. Fans will love this one.
