After the events of the last book. Charles is still recovering from being stabbed in America. He is slowly getting better, and is expecting his cousin from India, whose father has died, and was one of Charle’s best friends and his cousin. He receives a letter from his former housekeeper, Mrs. Huggins, who worked for his family years ago. The house that she lives in now had a murder seven years ago, which was never solved, and someone has been trying to break in at night. It turns out there was opium made there, and he has found a stash of cash. He is on the case to try and solve that cold case, as well as dealing with the arrival of Angela and it turns out her friend, Sari, who is Indian, has come with her. Charles also learns his wife, Lady Jane, is participating in suffragette rallies to get women to be able to vote. This is the fifteenth novel in the series, and it’s another good one. With a wide cast of characters, different stories overlapping, the life of Charles Lenox is full and worth reading about.
