Abe and Ruth have been married for 70 years and now a health crisis for Ruth causes an uproar in their lives. They met all those years ago and Ruth did not like Abe, but he wore her down, they fell in love, she got pregnant and they were married. We follow their lives from that time to now, with a tragedy, an almost affair, tough times in their marriage, dealing with teenage kids, and through it all they never let their love for each other die. Now today with their ages, a medical issue with Ruth and Abe at 90 trying to look after his wife, and take care of himself. The novel at its core is about the love of two people for each other. This is a well-written, intense novel, you will not want to put down. Author Jonathan Evison is one of the best writers alive today.
