Jane Smith is known as the Hampton Lawyer, having never lost a case. She’s back defending Rob Jacobsen, who is once again accused of murder, this time three people. She once got him off on a previous murder charge. This case is taking place in Nassau County, and the evidence is overwhelming. Jane is not sure how she will win this case. Along with her are Jimmy, her best friend and investigator and a jury consultant, Norma Banks, who is 83 and a real hoot. Jane is also dealing with her cancer, for which she has been told is rapidly advancing. She tries an experimental treatment in hopes of saving her life. We follow the trial in real time right up to its shocking conclusion. There’s also a string of murders taking place by people who owe money to a mobster, and Jane and Jimmy have been targeted for death by a killer who loves musicals. This is the third novel in the series, and it’s another great one. Authors Patterson and Lupica have magic writing together. Fans of legal thrillers can’t do much better than this one.
