Karen White’s fifth Tradd Street adventure is available in paperback for the first time on Tuesday, August 28th. It’s my first time reading one of the Tradd Street novels and I have to say it is very enjoyable. Author Karen White is becoming one of my favorite writers with her southern charm type of novels.
Melanie Trenholm is finally going back to work after a year off on maternity leave taking care of her twins and getting to spend time with her author husband Jack. Strange things are starting to happen as well. Melanie is getting hangups on her cell phone from a number that has been disconnected. And a new woman has arrived in town named Jayne Smith, who has inherited a house on South Battery from Button Pinckney, who had no family left. She doesn’t know why it was left to her. She wants nothing to do with it but to sell it.
Melanie tries to convince her to check it out and to keep it. It has been around for a long time and is well know. When they go to look at it Melanie feels spirits in the house (she and her mother has these special powers) and that things are not right. She also finds out Jayne is a nanny and she happens to need a nanny. They decide to hire her for the twins. Things are getting weirder by the day with the house, spirits and Melanie thinks something might be going on with Jayne and her husband.
The more they are around the house, the more dangerous things become until old secrets come to light and the fight for survival is on for the house against an evil force.
A page-turning story of secrets, magic, ghosts and old school southern charm. Charleston is one beautiful place and the setting enhances the story. All these elements together make a thrilling adventure. I hope there will be more Tradd Street stories coming.
