Genie comes from a magical family and on her 30th birthday, her grandmother tells her she has a wish she can make at midnight for anything she wants. Once that wish is granted it cannot be reversed. Not thinking it is real she isn’t thinking when she wishes her dog Rory could be human. When he wakes up Rory is human and not happy about it. He still has all the qualities of being a dog and doesn’t understand being a human. She tells her best friend Miles about what happened and they try to help Rory as much as they can. Her grandmother finds there may be a loophole to turning him back, She needs to move forward with her life, be honest about everything and she may even admit to herself how she is in love with Miles. This is one great book. The star of the novel is Rory as a human, while still wanting to be a dog. The writing is funny and at times heartfelt. One of the best books of the summer and of the year.
