A great historical fiction novel, with dual timelines, and a mystery from fifty years ago, is the highlight of this novel. The year is 1918 and three women, Marjory, Viv and Blanche are doing what they can to help out during WWI and the plight of women getting the vote. The three of them become yeomanettes, now the Navy has allowed women to help. They become best friends and soon learn each other’s secrets and they all them. And then when their secrets are starting to be revealed, they make a pact to have each others backs and protect each other. The year is 1968 and Peggy has inherited a beach cottage from an estranged aunt. She has just gotten divorced and this came at the right time, although she has no idea why it was left to her. She starts to investigate the past of her aunt and starts to slowly put together the shocking secrets, and it reveals who she really is and what happened all those years ago. I love these novels, as I learn something new every time I read a historical fiction. The duel timeline works perfectly here, and unfolds in real time, as we learn the truths.
