The year is 1799 and Elma Sands leaves the boardinghouse she’s living in and never returns. Her body is found days later in a well. His rich brother Ezra hires Aaron Burr and Brockholst Livingston to defend Levi and get him freed. Alexander Hamilton hears about the case and gets himself on the defense team as well. He’s had some political disappointments lately and is hoping this will rehab himself and get him more money as well. As he investigates he learns a shocking secret about Elma that could change everything. The novel goes to the trial and a surprise ending. Author Lauren Willig writes these awesome historical fiction novels and this one is another great one. I knew nothing about this trial or these people and she has done her homework and this is a novel you will not want to put down.
