Evelyn and Lily are two elderly sisters who live in a walled-in property, who never venture out of their living space, spending a lot of time in their kitchen and garden. They have a list of rules in an almanac, written by their mother. Evelyn does wonder how much longer they can live like this. When a young man shows up, it causes havoc with the sisters. They are soon forced to leave the comfort of their home and face the outside world and secrets from their past and who and what their lives are all about. An intense gothic novel that keeps you engaged throughout. At times chilling and haunting and this is one of those novels you do not want to put down.
