Book Review: ‘The French Illusion: A Novel’ By John Grisham

Paul Tanner, ex-military and currently works for the justice department, and his wife, Chelsea, have just gotten married, and are off to Paris for their honeymoon. They’re unaware that someone is following them and knows their moves, especially when Chelsea posts what they are doing. They’re soon kidnapped, and a ransom demand is made to each of their families for two million dollars, and not police, the FBI, or anyone else. Both families pay ,and only Chelsea is released. When the FBI is finally told, it turns out this has happened two times before, where the women has been released, but not the men. We soon learn it is a revenge plot (you’ll find out why when you read the book), and soon the CIA takes over, and a plan is put into motion. A young lawyer is made an offer he can’t refuse to go undercover, and it may end up backfiring on him. This is not your typical John Grisham legal novel; it’s a page-turning, fun time that Grisham fans will enjoy.
