Olivia Blunt is 29 and is back for her second adventure with her boss, world-famous detective Aubrey Merritt. Right now, they have no cases, and Olivia is about to be married, so it’s working out fine. When Olivia sees an invite for Aubrey to attend her 40th reunion of her sorority chapter, she can’t understand why she wouldn’t want to go. When John Fitzroy, the husband of one of her few good friends, Joan, shows up, she changes her mind. The two of them are off to New Mexico for the reunion and a new case. It seems someone might be threatening Joan’s life, and Aubrey has been hired to try to find out who is responsible. When they get there, they find feuds, scorpions, snakes, and some bitter people holding onto feuds. When someone is killed, Aubrey and Olivia are on the case. There are any number of suspects, and Aubrey says she knows who the killer is and makes Olivia solve the case herself. This follow-up to last year’s debut, The World’s Greatest Detective and Her Just Okay Assistant (which I highly recommend) is another fun book in the series. The interplay between Aubrey and Olivia is a lot of fun, and this novel is something mystery fans will enjoy.
