I love historical fiction novels, everytime I read one I learn something new. I never knew about Alice Diamond and the all female-London Gang, that ruled the streets for about 50 years. This is a well-written, well-researched, fascinating nvoel and you will not want to put it down. Alice Diamond supported and ran her family in The Mint, after her father was sent to jail. The Diamond family was respected and followed. Alice herself was a great their, often ripping people off. She worked as a maid during the day for a rich man, so she could rip off his safe and waitress at night at thr 43 club, where she would pick-pocket from the rich customers. Then she sees her former friend Maggie, who’s now a part of the Forty Elephants, the all-girl group, that is robbing England blind, She;s all fancy now and wants Alice to join the group, led by Mary. She refuses at first, then her brother Tommy gets into trouble and she has no choice to join and she starts making a lot of money. But Alice has grander plans and is not one to be messed with. She soon gets Mary taken care of and now leads the group and is planning the biggest heist in the history of the group. This is the debut nove from author Bledsoe and it is Great! Fans of the genre will not be disappointed.
You can pick up The Forty Elephants in stores on Tuesday, August 23rd from Blackstone.
