Arden Bowie is an author who had a hit first novel and is working on her second. At a book signing in her hometown of Columbus, a man, Dustin, gets her autograph and tells her he is a writer as well and would love advice from her. She gives him a little advice and leaves. Then he shows up at more of her events, asks her out, and she finally agrees to have coffee with him, knowing it’s a mistake. One night, he shows up at her place with flowers, claims that she is his, beats her, and tries to rape her. He’s arrested and given a short five-year sentence in a psychiatric facility. She ends up moving to Oregon to be closer to her friends and family, and to get away from what happened with Dustin. She buys a house and renovates it, writes more novels, and meets Gideon, and they soon fall in love. When Dustin gets out, he is still obsessed with Arden and makes it his mission to find her and have her, no matter the cost. This is the annual stand-alone May novel from Nora Roberts, and it follows the same pattern as every other May novel. The characters are well-written, the love story is heartwarming, and the last third of the book is a page-turning event, with a great climax.
