Harriet Reed is a writer who had a hit first novel. She’s in a relationship with Edward Holbeck, the heir to the Holbeck family fortune and business. They’ve been together quite a while now and live together, and just found out that Harriet is pregnant. She has yet to meet his dysfunctional family and that’s about to change. She meets the whole family for Thanksgiving dinner, where Ed’s father, Robert, gives her a mysterious cassette to listen to, in which he claims he’s writing a book. Harriet also starts to learn family secrets. When Harriet starts to listen, it turns into what sounds like a confession of murders that Robert has committed. He also tells her that he knows her secret (she has one from a long time ago). Harriet is at a loss as to what to do and then gets invited for more family events and weird games. She soon finds her life in danger and figures out why she was given the tape and the true meaning behind it. Another great novel from Catherine Steadman that will keep you reading on. Filled with twists and turns, leading up to the shocking reveal at the end. Fans of psychological thrillers will love this one.
