A category six hurricane, named Luna, hits South Florida and destroy’s Miami and the surrounding areas. For Daphne Larsen-Hall and her Doctor husband and two kids, everything has changed. Now she’s broke and homeless and she and the kids, Gavin, Mia and Oliver, are taken to a FEMA shelter in Oklahoma, which is over-crowded with 10,000 people and in need of more room and help. Things fall apart for them there, Mia is addicted to a game called Range and Gavin becomes a drug addict. Daphne having lost everything decides to try and step up at the shelter and becomes an art teacher. But things at the shelter are just not getting better and people are making cliques and then a new emergency may show up, putting everything in disarray. With climate change a real thing, this novel is intense in that this could be a look at our future at some point. It’s a book you won’t want to put down and it makes you think.

You can pick up The Displacements in stores on Tuesday, July 5th from Riverhead.
