Eddie Flynn is asked by a secret government employee to defend a young black man, Andy Dubois, who is accused of murdering his white co-worker, Skylar Edwards, after Andy’s attorney goes missing. The case is taking place in a small Alabama town where the District Attorney has sent more people to their deaths because the state has the death penalty. He’s crooked, as is the sheriff and the judge who hears the cases. Eddie, Kate, Harry and Bloch all try to prepare a case that doesn’t look winable. Potential witnesses have been harassed, made promises that won’t be kept and outright lied to. Slowly, Eddie and his crew find out about lies, deceptions and downright false information in the case. It leads to a dramatic trial, and Eddie needs to pull out everything he can to free this innocent man. This is another outstanding legal thriller from author Cavanagh. The story is engaging and this is one of those books you don’t want to put down. This series is one of my favorites every year.
