Galornus Prime is the Demon Overlord, and he has been killed and brought back to life 444 times, and he’s tired. After killing his latest hero, Willem, he takes over his body, makes it look like he is dead, and retires to earth, and buys a small farm where he grows turnips. He gets a goat, learns about the town gossip, who hates who, and has to deal with his annoying neighbor, a woman who is 73, and complains about everything. When he uses his magic to fix the wind and water in the village, it turns the whole place around. Soon it becomes a thriving village, with new trade routes and new families moving in. He soon becomes Uncle Willem to the kids, gets a demon dog, who loves the kids, and helps the town fight off corrupt officials and greedy merchants, who try to overtax and run up prices. He becomes one of them, and when a demon expert comes to town, it might blow his cover, and when the town revolts, a shocking group helps defend it. Willem is happy in his new life, and the novel ends on a cliffhanger, setting up the next story in the series. This is a really fun, easy book to read, at just 240 pages. Willem is a lot of fun to read, and the supporting cast is outstanding, including a goat and a dog. A perfect Labor Day book to read.
