Thirty years ago, in London, the married couple of Nolan and her husband George, had a man break into their house, freaking them out but they survived that night. What didn’t survive was their marriage and it has haunted them to this very day, years later, the man, Nigel Wood, a former cop, has been caught and convicted. The two of them are giving victim impact statements and it opens up a whole can of worms about their relationship back then, which we learn about. George never wanted her to go public back then about the whole deal, but Nolan was determined to do it. We learn about the years of their lives before and after the attack and it’s an intense, well-written novel, that you will not want to put down. One of the best psychological novels of the year so far.
