Jake Cantrall is an ex-army officer, now working campus security in upstate New York. When students have a mass gathering and drugs are given out, the place goes crazy. Jake gets into with two football players and in defending himself, he hurts the players and he ends up quitting his job over alleged allegations. Jake is soon hired by Lauren Kenniston, the editor of the local newspaper the Groton Journal, to help find a a young, musically gifted jazz singer, college girl named Deborah Chapman. He soon tracks her down and finds her in a terrible condition. He decides he’s going to find out what happened to her and along with Lauren, finds a web of drugs, sex trafficing and corrupt police and political leaders. Jakes life is not in danger, as is Lauren and others he has helping him out. But he refuses to give up until he has caught the people resposonsible for all the bad going on. As the bodies fall and the evidence mount, Jake comes up with a daring plan to end things once and for all. This is the second book in the series (and my first one) and I really enjoyed it. The character of Jake is badass and I was rooted to his story and his search for justice. If you’re a fan of the action adventure novel, this is right up your alley. Hopefully more adventures with Jake are coming.

You can pick up The Dark Circle in stores on Tuesday, August 9th from Crooked Lane.
