Lucy Hubbard has written her first novel, and it is a success, in London, in 1930. She is happy and shocked when she gets an invite to her first meeting of the Cloak and Dagger club at the Ritz Hotel. She’s invited by Horace Hazelmoor, the king of writing crime novels, and is joined by an elite number of writers, including her ex, Frank Murray, who has his novels, and they’re selling really well. The first meeting doesn’t go so well, and within days, Horace is found dead, with a knife in his back. All the members of the club, including Lucy, are suspects, with the police leaning on Frank as the person who did it. Lucy decides to investigate the murder, and it takes her to all kinds of places and secrets. She may also get back with Frank, and she is determined to find the killer before it’s too late. This is an old-fashioned thriller, with fun characters, an interesting story, and a good reveal. This is a perfect summer beach read.
