Annie Heston is a game warden, and after the collapse of her marriage, she makes a brand new start in the small town of Lake Lumis, in Oregon, as the new game warden. Her first order of business is to find a cougar that has been on the loose. When looking for it, she finds the body of a young woman. At first, she thought it was because of the cougar, but soon learns she was strangled to death. Her investigation leads her to 22-year-old Daniel Barela, who lives in a house near the lake. The two get close, and he confides in her a secret about himself. Then a second murder is found, and it all seems to lead to Daniel. It all leads to an intense climax and the reveal of the killer. This is the follow-up to Middletide, which was a great book. This thriller keeps you reading along as the deaths pile up and a potential new romance may begin. You won’t want to put this one down.
