Briarwood House is a women’s boarding house and in 1956 someone was murdered and there’s a number of suspects. Flashback to four years earlier, when Grace March moves in and the house will never be the same. She meets all the women living there, each has their own unique personalities and they bond together, one even works for Sen. Joe McCarthy during the time he was doing all his hearings. Each week they hold a dinner party in Grace’s room, and talk about their lives, which we follow along with and we even get recipes for the foods they cook. None of them are aware of the secret Grace has and all the women wonder who is the enemy in the house. This is a well-written, strong female-driven novel, with historical events as part of the plot, that only Kate Quinn can write. She has never written a bad novel and fans of hers will enjoy this one.
