The year is 1939, and Emma Taylor, who is a widow, lives in Nottingham, England, with her young daughter, Olivia, and needs a job. The laws are clear that almost no one can hire her because she is a widow and has a child. She’s able to get a job at Boots’ Booklover’s Library, where people pay for memberships and can check out books. With the war starting, and bombings taking place, she sends Olivia off to be safe. She has her friends, and co-workers to rely on, and even becomes a volunteer for the war. With her daughter away, back, and away again, she must find her inner strength to stay safe and care for the people around her. This is another great WWII historical fiction novel, with strong women, and a story you want to keep reading.
