The year is 1963 and Margaret Ryan, a wife and mother, has decided to start a book club and has invited three of her neighbors. Her neighbor, Charlotte, suggests the book, The Feminine Mystic, as the first book and she will attend. The group includes Bitsy a young wife and Viv, a mother of six and expecting her seventh. The women become good friends as they bond not so much over the book, but their lives. Margaret gets a job writing a column for a women’s magazine, Viv goes back to work as a nurse, Bitsy is having trouble getting pregnant and Charlotte is in a horrible marriage. As the days and weeks go by the women fight for their rights, husbands are caught cheating and the women lean on each other for support. A well-written historical fiction novel, with four women you enjoy reading and following along with.
