The year is 1995 and Nate Cartwright has lost his job as a journalist with the Washington Post, his parents have just died and his brother has decided he wants nothing to do with him. He did get a truck and a cabin in the mountains of Roseland, Oregon which is where he’s headed now. When he gets there he finds Alex and a young girl, who is 10, who calls herself Artemis Darth Vader, Art for short. Something is off with these two and Nate isn’t sure if he should stay. They start to give him some info on their relationship and soon he figures there’s something special about this girl. Soon people who been looking for them show up and they have to take off on the run and Nate decides to go with them. When he finally learns the truth about everything he’s amazed and they need to find a place to hide off the grid until they can get Art back to her family. Things go good for a while until their backs are up against the wall and they have to make a gut-wrenching decision. At its core, this story is about family, a love story (with a hot gay sex scene) and staying together. This book is great and will be one of the best novels of the year. TJ Klune has outdone himself.
