Derek Strange is a private eye in D.C. and has been doing it for a long time. He currently has no clients when a lawyer, Billy Lake, comes in and wants his help to prove that his client, Antone, who has been arrested for drugs, which he is guilty of, and for the murder of his friend, Nigel Walker, which he claims he didn’t do. He has a solid alibi, but the gun that shot Walker is found in his stash house. Then three weeks later, the boy of Cynthia Barnes is found, and she was a witness for the prosecution in the murder case. Strange, who had spoken to the girl, now feels he needs to figure out what happened to the girl. He meets with some shady people, and soon has the information he needs to clear Antone of murder and solve the death of Cynthia. This is the first time I have read one of these Derek Strange, novels and I loved it. The character is one of the best I have read all year, the story compelling, and it’s a great summer beach read.
