The small suburban neighborhood of Meadowbrook, Mass, is the setting for the debut novel of Jamie Day. It’s Memorial Day weekend, and the annual neighborhood party is in full swing. Alex Fox has drank too much, and is sent home by her husband. We also meet Mandy, Emily, Brooke and Emily, and their husbands, and families. During the party the police are called, and it appears someone has died, as speculated on online boards. The timelines then shift to before and after the party, and we learn all about these families, their secrets, and don’t find out to the very end who died, and why. It’s a soapy, twisty novel that keeps you guessing, and engaged. Readers will keep reading waiting to find out the shocking secrets. A great debut novel for author Day.
You can pick up The Block Party in stores on Tuesday, July 18th from St. Martin’s Press.
