The year is 1946, the war is over, and Winthrop Island, is waiting for the men to return. Emilia Winthrop, 20 years old, helps look after her mother, who had a stroke, along with her father, and sister. They live in the caretakers house, on the Peabody estate. She has been close to the brothers Shep and Amory. Then the arrival of their aunt Olive stirs things up. Emilia goes to work for her at night, watching her three kids. She and Shep have gotten close, but he’s leaving for California soon. When she meets Summer Fox, who is writing a book, her life will be forever changed. He’s not who he says he is, and asks her for her help to catch a potential spy. It will change her life in many ways. Jump forward eight years, and Emilia is once again having her life blown up by the events of 1946. Told in two time periods, this is another great Beatriz Williams novel. I don’t think she has ever written a bad one. Fans of character driven spy novels, will love this one.
You can pick up The Beach At Summerly in stores on Tuesday, June 27th from Morrow.
