David Trent, an aspiring writer, and his girlfriend Bonnie have a place they can afford and move in together. Their apartment is above Silas Hale, a very famous author, who is a jerk. When David finally finishes his book, he gets a publishing deal with a small publishing house, and then he wins a prestigious award for it, one that Silas won before. Now, Silas is being nice to David when he finds out. David then gets shocking news about the award he won, and it sets him on a dangerous path. There is a death, a coverup, someone is wrongly accused, and David is in the middle of all of it. He has to figure out how to save himself, and it could mean another murder. This is an excellent psychological novel, with a great lead character and a well-written story. Another great novel from author Matthew Pearl and a good book to finish the year off with.
