Cotton Malone is asked a favor by his old friend Derrick Kroger, who heads the European station chief for the CIA, to keep an eye on Bank of Saint George employee Kelly Austin. When he spots her, he also spots a car with guns aimed at her, and saves her, and comes to find out she is someone from his past. The whole story centers on the bank trying to get countries to convert to bitcoin, and them getting the market share of it, Kelly has devised a project that will make the bank the dominant one in the currency. She has a change of heart, and has written a program that could wipe out the bank. The Japanese are also interested in her, the bank has control of a cache of gold, hidden by the Japanese during WWII, quite a bit still hidden. And the CIA has a plan, to wipe out any American involvement in what’s going on, even taking out its own members, including Cotton. It all climaxes with an exciting ending at a party near the Atlas Mountains, and Cotton learns a potential shocking secret. This is another great book in the series. It’s all action, on two different fronts, it never lets up, and Cotton is at his finest in this novel. This is one of my favorite series every year, and never disappoints.
